DAY 2: Saturday 19 november.
Today the weather was cloudy in the morning, but low temperatures created excellent conditions for the race.
Races started at 10 am with the Middle distance classes. in most categories, but not all, the teams that were at the first place yesterday confirmed their position and often increased the gap with the second. We have a full Czech monopoly on first position in all MD Cart classes, with from category MD-O to MD-C2 5 Czech mushers leading their respective classes, Roman Habasko, Pacit Zdenek, Romana Guregova, Jaroslav Charouz and Vojtech Nemec, but this is no surprise as Czech Republic is the country where we have more longtrailers.
So only in non cart categories we had other countries showing up. In Bike -2 Men the leader is Laszlo Domonkos from Serbia, Bike-2 Women is leaded by Nathalie Roland from France, in Bike-1 Men the leader is Jan Neger from Slovakia and Austrian Elisabetz Smejkal-Hayn is first in Bike-1 Women.
In sprint, positions are not as clear as in MD and the third heat may well bring some changes and surprises.
In A class, Karl Rachbauer (AUT) and Knud Schmolz (DEN) are fighting for the first place. In B1 Maros Litvaj (SVK) is followed by Attila Kiss (HUN), while the B2 class is promised as usual to Bernd Sauerhöfer (GER). The podium of the C1 class is very uncertain as the first four teams are very close to each other, even if the first is the Austrian junior Larissa Wiwner. The podium of the c2 class will be German for sure and the present leader is Frank Schölles. In D1, the first four teams are in 45 seconds so nothing is sure and the Hungarian leader, Zoltanne Varga should do her best tomorrow to keep her leadership. D2 class is leaded by the French junior Theo Kentzinger with two Greenland dogs just before another French Marc Brocard also with two Greenland dogs.
Competition in Bike and scooter classes is really tough and no podium is yet sure. In Bike 1- 2dogs M the leader is actually Igor Stefan (SVK), and by the women Junior Linea Kamper Pedersen is first. Bike 2-2 dogs is leaded by French Raphael Perrin. Roman Reistetter (SVK) is the leader in Bike 1-1 M, and Austrian Lisa Klaushofer in Bike 1-1W. In Bike 2-1 M three French mushers are fighting for the podium with Jean-Michel Hoog at the first place.
In scooter 1-2dogs M Russian Alexey Tarazanov is first and Moldovan Alexandr Bannicov is second. In Sc1-2W Hungarian Kitti Köffer is first. Russia, Estonia and Moldova should be on the podium of class SC2-2M, leaded actually by Pavel Otbetkin. Germans Stefan Finzel and Stefanie Wunsch are respectevely leading the classes Sc1 - 1 Men and women. Sepp Brugger is th eleader in clas SC 2-1 M and Priscilla Neureiter from Portugal leads the women class.
In canicross we had the second day of Mass start, while tomorrow th estart will be with real time intervals. In CC2dogs M Seabastian Astelbauer is first, while Hungarian Zsuzsanna Gyurovics leads CC2dogs W. Michal Ivanco /SVK) and Oleg Frolov (RUS) will compete for the first place in CC1M as will Edina Koris (HUN) and Gabriela Lehka (CZE) by the women. Theo Kentzinger (FRA) leads the junior class as does Virag Kiss-Toth in Junior Girls. Finally the young junior class is leaded by Slovak Tamara Ivancova.
Tomorrow the third day with a good weather as it is forecast will be really exciting.

DAY 1 : Friday 18 November.
As from Wednesday. the lovely city of Ottenschlag has been invaded by a huge number of sled dogs and their mushers. In fact 197 mushers coming from 17 countries arrived to compete in these FISTC Cart European Championships that started yesterday, with the traditional controls, both vetcheck and pedigree and dogpasses controls. In the evening the beautifull opening ceremony took all participants from the city center to the 12th Century Castle, a really beautiful event. During the ceremony, everybody could already feel that we started participating in an exceptionnal event, thanks to the efforts made by the whole community and the Major, Mrs Christa JAGER, as well as by the Austrian club ÖSHS leaded by its President Erich Astelbauer.
This morning the weather was perfect, cold (+2°C) and sunny. First in start the 42 teams running the Mid-distance race on one of the most beautifull trails in Europe. In MD O Roman Habasko has taken the lead and second is Jana Henychova, both from Czech Republic. In MD A, another Czech musher, Pacit Zdenek, is first but at the second place we have a Swiss musher, Thomas Kämpf. Two other czech mushers are on top of B class, Romana Guregova being closely followed by Tomas Toman. MD races with carts are a Czecz specialty as also the other two classes are led by mushers from that country, Jaroslav Charouz in C1 and Vojtech Nemec in C2.
In MD bikes classes, mushers from other countries had more chances and the leaders after this first heat are Laszlo Domonkos from Serbia in Bike 2dogs men, Ines Wasle from Austria in Bike 2 women, Jan Neger from Slovakia in Bike 1 men and Elisabeth Smejkal-Hayn in Bike 1 women. However, all participants were 100% happy about the fantastic trail in such a beautifull nature.
In sprint also we had a total success. Actually in most categories the first teams are so close that nobody can foresee yet who may be winning. As we have quite some different classes I will just mention the leaders in each one. In cart, Category A is leaded by Karl Rachbauer (AUT), B by Maros Litvaj (SVK), B" by Bernd Sauerhöfer (GER), C1 by Larissa Wiener (AUT) Junior, C2 by Frank Schölles (GER), D1 by Zoltanne Varga (HUN) and D2 by Theo Kentzinger (FRA) Junior.
Many participants also in two wheeler classes and today the leaders are : in B1-2 Men Igor Stefan (SVK), B1-2 women Linea Kamper Pedersen (DEN) Junior, B2-2 Raphael Perrin (FRA), B1-1 Men Patrik Lucansky (SVK), B1-1 Women Lisa Klaushofer (AUT), B2-1 Jean-Michel Hoog (FRA), S1-2 M Alexey Tarazanov (RUS), S1-2 W Kitti Köffer (HUN),S2-2 M Pavel Otbetkin (RUS), S1-1 M Stefan Finzel (GER), S1-1 W Stefanie Wunsch (GER), S2-2 M Sepp Brugger (AUT), S2-1W Priscilla Neureiter (POR).
Very beautifull races also in Canicross wher the leaders are in CC2dogsMen Sebastian Astelbauer (AUT), CC2W Zsuzsanna Gyurovics (HUN), CC1M Michal Ivanco (SVK), CC1W Edina Koris (HUN), CC1MJunior, Theo Kentzinger, CC1WJunior Virag Kiss-Toth (HUN), and for the young 11-14 years old, Tamara Ivancova (SVK).
Congratulation to all competitors and particularly to the 28 Juniors competing in most classes and often at the best positions. Today this has been one of the best competitions ever, and the next two days are also very promising as competition is really strong.

Here is the home page for the EC Cart 2016. There will be news on the HP during the next weeks
FISTC Championships in Italy - 2017
As that was already said during the General Assembly, there might have been the possibility to modify the dates and location of our FISTC Sprint and MD/LT Championships 2017 as the originally planned dates in January were not suitable for many countries like The Netherlands who have St Ullrich or the Czech Republic with Destne and others.
Now we succeeded in changing the location with the full support of our Italian friends. So the next FISTC Championships will take place in Italy, the location is MILLEGROBBE (TN) not far from the Austrian border.
The Championships sprint will take place from 9 to 12 February 2017 and the Championsips MD/LT on the same location the week after from 16 to 19 February 2017.
More details will come soon. However we already can give you some information that you may find on the following websites:

Sunday 21st February
Yesterday evening we have had a nice musher dinner and dancing party offered by our Slovak hosts to all participants. In addition it has been snowing all night long and this morning all trails were in perfect conditions. Just a bit slower than yesterday.
In these conditions most positions were confirmed today.
For the longtrailers the new snow made the trail heavier and they enjoyed sledding with their dogs for a longer time. In LT-O the European Champion is Martin Brzek (CZ) and the Silver medal is won by Dieter Gramberger (A). Another Czech, Peter Gurega, musher wins the LT2 class and second is the French Gilles Bigot.

All sleds have been slower than yesterday, even Jean Combazard (F) who has been flying with his ten Siberian Huskies in MD O at an average speed of 20 km per hour over the all race. Second to him the excellent Roman Habasko (CZ), silver medal.
In A1 Class Doris Prohaska (A) wins the title and second is another Austrian lady, Renate Barwick. In A2 the French Thierry Narcy wins the title. In B1, the Slovak Maros Litvaj wins the title while the Silver medal goes to Richard Burda (CZ). FISTC European Championship Mid and Long Distance 2016
SACHTICHY - Slovakia - 18 - 21 February 2016
Here we are again. On Thursday evening, after a quite rainy day we had a beautiful opening ceremony like our Slovak friends know to organise it.
Unfortunately it has been raining all night so the first day of race on Friday was cancelled.
But in life you need a minimum of luck and sometimes miracles. As from Friday lunch time rain turned into snow and this morning we had almost perfect trails and we could start the race. While some small parts of the trail, at the start and finish area were not good enough for skiers, some mushers said they have had on of their best distance race...
In Pulka Class, the first is the French Michel Decouteix. IN SJ 2 dogs the Czech Jacob Urban is the leader, while SJ 1 dog men is leaded by Jan Neger (SK).
In MD O class, Jean Combazard (F) has been unbelievely fast, racing the 39 km in less than 2 hoursand has now a confortable advantage on Roman Habasko (CZ) second. In A1 class the first is Doris Prohaska, while A2 is leaded bz Thierry Narcy (F).
B classes like SJ classes race on 30 km and B1 is lead by Maros Litvaj (SK) and B2 Class by Zbigniew Heczko (CZ).
C and D classes race on 22,5 km. C1 is led by Filippo Piccinini (I) and Didier Fleury (F) is second. C2 is led by Alain Diffort (F) with four Greenland dogs. D1 is in the hands of Blanka Csizmadia (HU), while in Dľ Theo Kentzinger (F) Junior is first.
A really beautiful race that would be one of the most beautiful in Europe with a little bit more snow.
Tomorrow will be another beautifull race as we expect some more snow during the night.
But right now we all will enjoy the musher dinner and dancing party offered by our Slovak friends to all participants, mushers, handlers and friends.
Once again what a good race in such a nice atmosphere like you only find on Distance Championshps.
