Third day

Once again on this third day we had an excellent weather, slightly cloudy and cold. Trails were excellent like in previous days so everything was perfect for the dogs for this exciting final day.
The competition was tough and on this third day several changes happened in many classes.
In middle distance O, Jana Henychova (CZ) wins the title with no surprise, but the change came from Manfred Komac (A) who gets the Silver medal, passing Gerald Schinzel (A) who finishes at the third place due to a broken wheel on his Cart. In Mid A, Roman Habasko (CZ) is the champion with no surprise. The surprise (but was it really a surprise ?) came from Filippo Piccinini (I) who had the clever tactic and on this third day was able to pass Romana Guregova (CZ) and win the Gold medal and the title in B class, while in C class Martin Brzek (CZ) won the title.

Quite some changes happened also in Sprint categories. In A Zsofia Verla (HUN) was able to be fast enough to fill the 15" gap she had with the first and so she won the race and got the Gold medal with an advance of 29" on Jean Claude Peru (F), the bronze medal going to Knud Schmolz (DK). In B1, the Gold medal goes to Maros Litvaj (SK) and in B2, as usual, nobody was able to even follow Bernd Sauerhöfer (D) and his Greenland dogs. In C1, Jana Zemcakova (SK) lost her first place for 9", and the French Gérard Pascal gets the Gold medal and the title. In C2, Zdenek Piskac (CZ) were able to win the category with 1" advantage on the second Vladimir Vrastil (CZ), really a beautiful race. In D1, Igor Pribula (SK) won the title, while in D2, Sasha Hasenauer (A) won the title, the young junior Samuel Horbal (SK) finishing 11" after him.

In Bike 2 dogs men, Andrej Drabik (SK), Thomas Reuter (A) and Oleg Tarazanov (RUS) are on the podium; in Bike 2 dogs women, Elisabeth Smejkal-Hayn (A) is first, Sabine Wohlfahrt (I) is sencond and Tompay Böjtösne (HUN) completes the podium. In Bike 1 dog men the podium is 100% Slovak with Igor Stefan first, Roman Reistetter second and Patrik Lucansky third. In Bike 1 dog men 2, Salvatore Fogliano (I) wins the title with his Alaskan Malamute ans Szilveszter Tulipan (HUN) is second with a Samoyed, third Emamnuel Carlod (F) with a Malamute. There has been a strong competition in Bike 1 dog women, category won by Sixtine Roussel (F), while for the second place Evgeniia Silicheva (RUS) was 8" in front of Evgenyia Bogdanova (RUS).

The was also strong competition in all scooter categories. The scooter 2 dogs class was won by Sebastian Astelbauer (A) who was able to catch Jiri Kubelka (CZ) who finished second at 5" only, Didier Fleury (F) finishing 3rd. The Scooter 2 dogs Junior Class was won by a fantastic Alexey Tarazanov (RUS). The Scooter 1 dog 1 class was won by the young French girl Juliette Fouarge and in the Scooter 1 dog 2 the winner was Gabor Rosner (HUN) and his Greenland dog who got his second European Champion title after the one he got in Farra d'Alpago.
Then we had the Canicross categories in which the participants were starting at real interval time. In CC 2 dogs women, Sylvia Perl (A) got the Gold medal, Blanka Csizmadia (Junior) took the Silver medal and Rebecca Sordje (SRB) the Bronze one. Canicross 1 dog men was again a Slovak story, Michal Ivanco being first, Jan Neger, second and Marcel Matanin third. Canicross 1 dog women was won by Edina Koris (HUN) and Canicross 1 dog junior by Tonda Smaus (CZ).

Then it was time to congratulate the organisers of these exceptional championships. The major and the Village of Venek first for the quality of the overall organisation and their welcome appreciated by all participants, as well as the Hungarian club, ESZKSK, who made a fantastic job.

The pricing ceremony starting with nice folkloric dances from the young children of Venek was then another nice part of these championships. and finished with the winning by the Danish musher Mikkel Buuge of a beautiful new sled !

Finally from the point of view of many delegates, ESZKSK and Venek succeeded in organising one of the best FISTC European Championships. Most mushers and all their dogs enjoyed it and the races were of a very high quality. It was also time to thank them all and particularly those countries who were participating for the first time like Bulgaria and Serbia, as well as Russia who came with four mushers who all got medals !

Now, no doubt than next year in Denmark we will have the next Cart Championships of the same very high quality !

2nd day of Cart European Championship

FISTC  European Championships Cart

Day 2 – 22nd November 2014

Today the weather was excellent for the dogs, cloudy and cold. Trails were even better than yesterday and all mushers, as well as their dogs, enjoyed the race.
In middle distance categories it seems that Czech mushers are the masters of this discipline. The four different classes are led by Czech mushers !
In Category O, Jana Henychova increased the gap between her and the second in the class, Gerald Schinzel (A). In A class, Roman Habasko is first but Lukas Mikulic (A) was less than 1mn slower than him today. In B1, Romana Guregova must be careful as Filippo Piccinini (I), second, is coming very close to her, the difference between the two being now of only 18 seconds. In C1 also Martin Brzek is followed by another Italian musher Claudio Driussi.
In sprint categories, the first teams in many categories are very close to each other: In the A class, the leader, Jean-Claude Peru (F), has only an advantage of 15 seconds on the second Zsofia Verla from Hungary, and the third Knud Schmolz is also following them very closely. The Slovak Maros Litvaj is first in B1 before two French mushers, Stephane Poublanc and Lionel Duprat. The B2 class is dominated by Bernd Sauerhőfer and his flying Greenland dogs.
In C1 nobody can say who will be winning the category as the first three are within 30 seconds... Jana Zemcakova  (Sk) is first but Pascal Gerard (F) follows her at 7 ˝ and Jaroslav Charouz (Cz) is also  very close. In C2, two Czech mushers are also fighting for the first place, Vladimir Vrastil followed by Zdenek Piskac. In D1 Igor Pribula (SK) is first as is Samuel Horbal (SK, junior) in D2.
The competition is very tough also in the other categories. In Bike 2 dogs men Thomas Reuter (A) is 3 seconds in front of Andrej Drabik (SK) who is very closely followed by Oleg Tarazanov (RUS)... In bike 2 dogs women, while Elisabeth Smejkal-Hayn is first, Sabine Wohlfart (I) overtook today Tompay Böjtösne for the second place. In bike 1 dog men 1, Igor Stefan is first, Roman Reistetter second and Patrik Lukanski third, these first three mushers being Slovaks. In Bike 1 dog men 2, Salvatore Fogliano (I) is leading with his Malamute but Szilveszter Tulipan  (Hun) is chasing him with a beautiful Samoyed.  Bike 1 dog women is led by the nice French girl Sixtine Roussel, but two Russian young ladies, Evgeniya Bogdanova and Evgeniia Silicheva will try to pass her tomorrow.
In the Scooter 2 dogs class the first six competitors may go on the podium tomorrow. Jiri Kubelka (SK) is first, Sebastian Astelbauer (A) is second and Didier Fleury (F) is third. The Scooter 2 dogs Junior class is led by Alexey Tarazanov (RUS). Juliette Fouarge (F) is the solid leader of the Scooter 1 dog class while Gabor Rosner (HUN) is leading the Scooter 1 dog 2 class with his superb Greenlanddog.

In Canicross 2 dogs women, Sylvia Perl (A) is leading the category in front of Blanka Csizmadia (HUN) and Rebecca Sordje (SRB).
We all know that Slovak athletes are very good and we have one further demonstration with the Canicross 1 dog men category where the first four places belong to Slovak Competitors, the fastest one being Michal Ivanco. Canicross 1 dog women  is led by Edina Koris (HUN) and Canicross Junior by Tonda Smaus (CZ).
Tomorrow these canicross categories will be very animated as the participants will start with the real time difference so that the first on the finish line will be the winner.
This wonderful race is one of the best FISTC Championships and tomorrow we will have exceptional competitions.
Everybody underlined the quqlity of the organisation and the strong friendship established with local inhabitants. What a pleasure to be here !

1st day of Cart European Championship

VENEK – HUNGARY
21st -23rd november 2014
FISTC  European Championships Cart

Here we are. Our FISTC European Championships Cart started yesterday evening with a very beautiful and impressive opening ceremony.
Venek is a very nice small village close to the very sportive city of Győr, quite close to the Austrian border. Small village totally devoted to our pure breed Sled dogs Sports for four days. Every year they are used to organise a major sled dogs race and this year they are organising a splendid FISTC European Championship together with ESZKSK, the Hungarian Federation for Sled Dogs Sports, with the support of the Austrian friends.
Since the beginning this race reached a full success with 140 participants coming from 14 different countries. some participants coming from very far away like the Russian teams from St Petersburg or Moscow and many others.
Today we had the first heat with the first team starting at 10:00 am and the last canicross category starting at 3:24 pm. Weather was almost perfect, sunny all day and cold (+3° C) so all dogs and mushers really enjoyed it. Not any single problem with any dog.
Trails were perfectly prepared and marked and the whole race has been a total success with 100 percent satisfied mushers (and dogs also of course).
Three trails have been prepared, a 17 km trail for mid distance classes, a 9 km trail for O, A and B sprint classes and a 5 km trail for smaller categories. According to all mushers all trails were perfectly prepared and marked.
Competition has been tough in all categories and with the new rules adopted at the last GA there are now many participants in each class.
In middle distance O Jana Henychova (Cz) is leading after this first heat closely followed by Gerald Schinzel and Manfred Komac both from Austria.  in Mid A, Roman Habasko (Cz) has been really impressive, flying over the trail ! Two other Czech mushers, Romana Guregova and Martin Brzek are respectevely leading the Mid B and C classes. It really seems that the Mid distance has become a Czech specialty.
In sprint, on the 9 km trail, Jean Claude Peru (F) is first, one and half minute faster than Zsofia Verla (Hun), followed by Knud Schmolz (Dk). In B1 Maros Litvaj (Sk) is leading and France takes the second and third places with Stephane Poublanc and Lionel Duprat. In B2, as usual should I say, the leader is Berndt Sauerhöfer with his Greenland dogs.

On the shorter trail of 5 km, the C1 class is actually leaded by Jana Zemcakova (Sk), Pascal Gerard (F) and Jaroslav Charouz (Cz) as the diffrence in time is of just a few seconds. In C2, Z. Piskac is first with a beautiful team of Malamutes. D1 and D2 classes are respectevely leaded by the Slovaks Igor Pribula  and Samuel Horbal (Junior).
Many starters in Bike categories: In Bike 2 dogs men the first five are in less than 1 mn and the leader is Andrej Drabik (Sk). Bike 2 dogs women is leaded by E. Smejkal-Hayn (A). Igor Stephan (sk) is first in Bike 1 dog man, Salvatore Fogliano (I) is first in Bike 1 dog Men 2 with an Alaskan Malamute, Sixtine Roussel (F) is leading the Bike 1 dog women class. Many participants also in the Scoter categories, and the leaders today are in scoot 2 dogs Sebastian Astelbauer (A), Scoot 2 dogs junior, Alexey Tarazanov (Rus), scoot 1 dog, Juliette Fouarge (F), Scoot 1 dog 2, Gabor Rosner (hun) with a splendid Groenland dog (the first in Hungary).
Then for canicross, we used the Mass start for the four different categories, always spectacular. Canicross 2 dogs is led by Sylvia Perl (A), Canicross 1 dog men by Michal Ivanco (Sk), canicross 1 dog women by Edina Koris (Hun) and Canicross Junior by Tereza Zitna (Cz).
After a nice evening party tonight (there is one every evening), all the mushers will be ready for the tough competitions that will take place tomorrow from 10:00 am, with as the weather forecasts promise another beautiful and cold day that will please all dogs and their mushers.
The final word tonight will be thank you Hungary, thank you Venek and thank you ESZKSK for the perfect organisation and the splendid time we all are enjoying, time of very high level sports with our real pure breed dogs and time of friendship!
Tomorrow will be another very exciting day.

Dear friends,

the weather conditions in Auronzo are not improving. Instead, now the very high level of snow on top of the mountains makes it dangerous and the danger of avalanches has reached the maximum level.

As a consequence, the city of Auronzo has forbidden yestareday any organisation on the site of Palus San Marco, where it is even too dangerous to try to prepare the trails, as the whole upper part of the trail is under very high risk of avalanches.

We have no other choice than cancel the European Championships in Auronzo.
