MID Distance- Racing rules
Racing rules for sprint
races apply to middle distance races. However, there are
some differences that are described hereafter.
The minimum age for
dogs for MD race is 18 month.
A) Racing categories:
In FISTC Middle distance championships
there are no ski-joring.
B) Distances
Distances for middistance
to C= 25km (+/- 5km), B+P= 35km (+/- 5km), A+O= 45km (+/-
5km)
C) Mandatory equipment
for all teams:
_ First aid kit for the musher
and first aid kit for the dogs.
_ The dogs bag on the basket must be big enough to carry the
equipment and at least one dog.
_ One snow hook for teams up to B class, two snow hooks for
A and O teams.
_ One security line.
D) Mandatory Equipment
according to the racing categories:
_ "C" Class: One spare harness,
one leash, one neckline; one or two spare carabine; one cable
line (or chain) with two carabines; a complete set of booties
for each dog.
_ "B" Class: Two spare harnesses, two leashes, two necklines;
several spare carabines; two cable lines (or chains) with
two carabines each; a complete set of booties for each dog.
_ "A" and "O" classes: three harnesses, three leashes, three
necklines; several spare carabines; three cable lines (or
chains) with two carabines each; a complete set of booties
for each dog.
_ "Pulka" Class: one harness, one leash, one neckline; one
or two spare carabines; a complete set of booties for each
dog; one cable line (or chain) with two carabines; one spare
ski stick.
E) Extra
Equipment:
Extra equipment is left to the initiative of the musher. However
the following items are recommended:
_ One pair of sunglasses;
_ Warm clothes;
_ One lamp;
_ Water, etc...
F) On the Trail:
Mushers are allowed
to leave a tired or sick dog at a specific checkpoint. The
location of the specific checkpoint(s) must be clearly indicated
by the race Marshal at the Delegates meeting. The specific
checkpoint(s) is/are equipped with stake-out, water and veterinarian
assistance.
It is forbidden to leave a dog at any other checkpoints.
