ECH- MD/LT: Inzell 2009
FISTC
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS- MD/LT 2009
Inzell - Germany 21th to 22nd of February
Inzell
21-22 February 2009,
Another successfull European Championship MD/LT
Just
one week after the fabulous World Championships Sprint in
Werfenweng (A), the FISTC has organised its European Championships
Middle Distance and Long Trail in Inzell on 21 and 22 February
2009.
Originally planned in Italy, we needed to move these Championships
due to too much snow in Italy and to a high risk of avalanches
that could not allow the Italian organiser to organise them
safely and on the planned trails. Within two days we succeeded,
with the help of the German SSD and particularly to its SSBayern
Club, in organising these FISTC Championships 2009 in very
good conditions.
While in 2008 we had been obliged to move from Inzell to Innerkrems
due to missing snow, this year we have had a lot of snow.
In fact it has been snowing almost all the time making conditions
very tough for mushers, and particularly for skiers. However,
trails have been perfectly worked out.
On Saturday morning, Longtrailers started first in the eisstadion
and after 38 kms arrived at the bivouac. The SSB sprint race
started before our middle-distance teams went on the trails
that were 38 kms for A and O, 28 kms for B and Pulka and 22
kms for C and D classes. Everything went well as there was
a close cooperation between the organisers of the two races.
On Sunday morning it was snowing again, but most mushers were
happy on the finish line. Our Vet team, led as usual by Arno
Roos, had very little work as, once again, most dogs were
less tired than their mushers on the finish line. Despite
the difficult weather conditions, most participants were happy
and will keep excellent memories of this really beautifull
race. The pricing ceremony was as usual very emotional.
Big congratulations to all teams that finished that beautifull
but tough race !
We hope that in a short future we will come back again to
Inzell to organise a three days European Championship MD/LT
in this really wonderfull city.
Thanks
once again to Inzell and to SSB !
